Painting and polishing has been quite a challenge and my work is still far from perfect. The fuel tank was intended to be a polished tank with clear coat protection from rust. Although this didn't end up being a feasible. Getting the knack for painting, I proceeded to do the entire bike.
Unless you have commercial tools like blasters and spray guns for 2-pack paint, it really comes down to patience with rattle cans. Patience to prepare the surface, clean the metal, wipe it, tack cloth the dust, thin the paint, warm the object, test spray, spray, wait to set, spray again, wait till it dries, sand the paint smooth, clean, spray, wait, sand, sand finer and finer. Then buff it up as the process repeats itself till perfection. Contrary to common belief, you can paint without ovens and heaters. The difference is that paint takes longer to dry and cure. You also need the right humidity and temperature when painting otherwise you'll get bubbling paint like , crackling surfaces, or just a dull finish.
Almost every part on the bike has been painted except for some parts that were powdercoated for added protection. Powdercoat being more resistant to chips from gravel etc. It's real frustrating when paint chips and scratches during installation. Luckily it's easily patched up without a blemish. Totally untraceable.
